A perk for Seniors

It isn’t too often that “Seniors” get a really good deal, but here at Pilgrim Hall we are eager to offer you a special opportunity.  Sometimes you can get the chance to take a break tailored to your own specific requirements but it is usually when venues need to fill their space, off season.  We offer our Seniors’ Summer Holiday (21st—26th July) at the height of the season so you can enjoy the heated outdoor swimming pool, ice creams under a shady umbrella or a stroll in the grounds among the trees.  Ring Maggie to book your place.

Away from prying eyes

Regular refurbishment of Pilgrim Hall was in progress and floorboards had to be lifted back in the Autumn when Paul and Craig, our Maintenance Manager and his able assisstant, made a discovery!

Under the floor in a small bathroom of the main house, items were found which must have a whole wealth of stories and history woven around them; a Lloyds Skipper Brand Navy Cut tobacco tin, a tin of Mills Equipment Cleaner Khaki No. 700, an empty Eno’s Fruit Salts Bottle, an empty Wild Woodbine Cigarette pack and a small bottle of Proberts Khaki Renovator for Military Belts, Gaiters and Straps etc.  Items that were hidden, possibly when the Hall was requisitioned during the war years, but we will never know for sure.

First Aiders

Hannah (Hospitality Manager) and Linda (Office Administrator) recently attended a St Johns Ambulance First Aid course.  The course was called First Aid at Work and after 3˝ intense days of study, both theory and practical and including CPR, they took their exams and passed.  They now have their First Aid kits at the ready, but hope you will not need to call for them!

Text Box: ‘C’ our New Faces
Since our last newsletter (Autumn 2007) we have had an influx of new	permanent staff. We are pleased to welcome them all and each has settled into their roles quickly and efficiently and are all contributing in a positive manner to the smooth running of the Hall.
Carl Chumbley, our new Head Chef, comes to us from the White Lodge at Alfriston and latterly the Hydro Hotel in Eastbourne and is adding another dimension to our culinary delights.
Craig Lindfield-Butler has joined our Maintenance Team and is keeping busy, alongside Paul, not only with the day to day running but also the larger projects that become necessary in a building of this age and size.
Also on the team we have Caroline Farrant, our part-time bookkeeper. Caroline has only just joined us in “the office” but appears to have slotted in neatly to our merry band. We note that she does have the most important assets required for anyone working in our office, a sense of humour and a love of chocolate!

40 Days of Purpose

During Lent this year, each Thursday evening, we have hosted the Lent Course, entitled 40 Days of Purpose, for two of our local churches.  A perfect “neutral” venue for the souls of East Hoathly and Chiddingly to come together and explore their faith in the serene and convivial surroundings of Pilgrim Hall.  Perhaps you live locally and your church is searching for a venue for meetings during the day, or possibly in the evenings, if so then phone and speak to Jasmine or Sandra for prices and availability.  Many of you already come for weekends with your churches and remember we are happy to cater for groups as small as 10 adults and at the other end of the scale we have beds for up 110.
